Crispy Fried Tofu
Japanese golden fried tofu with a crispy cornstarch crust, served with a simple soy-garlic sauce, sesame seeds, and green onion.

Ingredients
- firm tofu400 g
- cornstarch3 tbsp
- vegetable oil3 tbsp
- garlic cloves2
- soy sauce2 tbsp
- sesame oil1 tsp
- sesame seeds1 tbsp
- scallion stalk1
Method
- 1Cut tofu into large cubes (about 2–2.5 cm). Wrap in paper towels, press gently, and leave for 10 minutes to remove excess moisture.
- 2Coat the tofu cubes in cornstarch to create a crispy crust when frying.
- 3Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry tofu in batches until golden on all sides, about 2–3 minutes per side.
- 4Mix soy sauce, garlic, and sesame oil in a small bowl to make the sauce.
- 5Transfer fried tofu to paper towels, then arrange on a plate. Drizzle with sauce, sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onion. Serve hot.
