I made this bowl by accident when the taco seasoning ran out. Added more garlic than usual because it was there. Turned out that extra garlic is exactly what makes this bowl memorable.
Make the garlic hot honey in advance and leave it for at least 30 minutes. The garlic and honey mellow together over time.
Sweet & Spicy Garlic Bowl
By Sergei Martynov
Sweet potato with paprika and cinnamon, ground turkey with garlic and warm spices, cottage cheese, avocado, and garlic hot honey. Garlic appears three times here — in the sweet potato seasoning, in the turkey, and in the honey drizzle. That repetition is intentional.

How to make it
Instructions
- 1
Preheat the oven to 220°C (425°F). Peel and dice the sweet potatoes into 2 cm cubes. Toss with 1 tablespoon olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Spread on a lined baking sheet. Roast 25 to 30 minutes, flipping once.
- 2
Make the garlic hot honey: combine honey, chili flakes, and 1 minced garlic clove in a small saucepan. Heat gently over low heat for 3 to 4 minutes — do not boil. Remove from heat.
- 3
Heat the remaining olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add 3 minced garlic cloves and stir for 30 to 60 seconds until fragrant — add garlic before the meat. Add the ground turkey and break it apart. Cook 5 to 7 minutes.
- 4
Add cumin, onion powder, remaining smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir well and cook another 2 minutes.
- 5
Season the cottage cheese with a pinch of salt, black pepper, and the lime juice.
- 6
Assemble: sweet potato as the base, turkey alongside, cottage cheese in its own zone, half an avocado per bowl. Drizzle the garlic hot honey generously over everything.
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes this more flavourful than other hot honey bowls?
Garlic goes into three places: the sweet potato seasoning, the turkey, and the hot honey. With cinnamon and paprika, the result is a warm aromatic layer that makes the bowl feel more complete.
How to make garlic hot honey — will the garlic taste too harsh?
Combine honey, chili flakes, and one minced garlic clove in a small saucepan. Heat gently on low for 3 to 4 minutes without boiling. Garlic heated in honey loses its sharpness.
Why does cinnamon in sweet potato work for a savoury bowl?
Cinnamon amplifies the potato's natural sweetness without making it sugary. Combined with paprika and garlic, it becomes part of a sweet-savoury profile. Key: no more than a quarter teaspoon per 500g.
Is it a complete meal?
Yes — sweet potato for carbs, turkey and cottage cheese for protein, avocado for fat and fibre. Add rocket or spinach for more volume.
How much garlic in the turkey — how to get strong flavour without bitterness?
3 to 4 cloves for 500g. Add garlic to the pan before the meat, 30 to 60 seconds in the oil alone, so it softens. Fresh and powder together give different aromatic layers.
